Spring Season Cancelled

On Monday 7/13 the Metro Board of Directors voted to cancel the Spring 2020 season.

Throughout the duration of this suspended season, the Board has met and worked on solutions and made every attempt to save the season. Despite those efforts and due to the current health orders, the calendar window to plan and play, and the availability of city fields, players and coaches, we have no other choice. We are saddened to take this step but, unfortunately it is necessary at this time.

Refund Policy & Requests

As a result of the cancellation, we are offering refunds (minus a $5 per player fee) for all fees paid to those who request it. The link to request a refund is below.

As you know, Sunnyvale Metro is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that counts on revenue from fundraising, registration fees, sponsors and our snack shacks to operate. This year we incurred approximately $20,000 in typical beginning of the year expenses such as uniforms, Little League charter fees, insurance, equipment, city field fees and maintenance costs in preparation of the season. We took in approximately $22,000 in registration fees.

If Metro were to refund all registration fees, we would lose the approximately $22,000 in registrations revenue and Metro will incur losses for the lost 2020 season of approximately $20,000. While some of these costs can be rolled over to next year (such as equipment and a portion of the uniforms) the losses will have a negative impact on our cash reserves. Due to responsible spending and successful fundraising, we are in a financial position to be able to offer these refunds. We also believe this is the right thing to do for our families during these trying and uncertain times.

If you would like a refund, please be aware that refunds will be minus a $5 per player fee and must be requested before the end of the day on Sunday August 2nd. When filling out the form, please use the space provided to list each child you are requesting a refund for.

Registration Refund Request

If possible, we ask that you consider donating your registration fees. If you choose to donate, there is no action needed on your part.

We have missed being at the ball fields watching our children play. We've missed seeing our friends and the families we've gotten to know over the years. We're saddened we’ll miss seeing our 12 year olds in their final season with Metro. Through Metro's almost 60 years of serving this community, we have not experienced a time like this. We will be back whenever it's appropriate and we will continue to provide a place for the community to come together, to watch our children grow as good citizens, athletes and competitors for years to come.

Until then, wear your mask, be safe, be healthy and take care.

Sincerely,

Your Sunnyvale Metro Board of Directors
