METRO MAJORS YANKEES FEND OFF BRIARWOOD PIRATES'S LATE PUSH, HOLD ON FOR 8-7 TOC WIN
Thanks to a 5-run fifth inning in which they scored 5 runs while batting through the order, the Metro Major Yankees were able to withstand a sixth-inning comeback bid by the Briarwood Pirates on
Rashaun Bowden shut down the Briarwood Pirates while he was on the mound. The Briarwood Pirates managed just one hit off of Rashaun, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out six during his four innings of work.
Lougan Meyer homered with one on in the fifth inning, and Samik Singh nearly added another, hitting the fence.
The Yankees took an 8-3 lead into the sixth inning, and needed all of that cushion as the Pirates' bats came alive in a furious comeback bid. The Briarwood Pirates scored four runs in the sixth, on an RBI single and a bases-clearing 3-run double. With 2 outs and the tying run at third base, a diving catch by Brennan Kelly at the warning track secured the victory for Metro.
The Yankees now move on to face Mountain View on Thursday, at Sunnyvale Southern's Faber Field at De Anza Park.
