MAJOR AND MINOR PLAYOFF UPDATE FOR JUNE 9th 2016

Hi Everyone, here is an update on the playoffs going on this week at Raynor Park!!  Please see updated Brackets on our Facebook page!

Minor Playoff update:

The Minor Championship game is tonight!!!

Bring the family and come out and cheer on the #1 seeded Red Sox battling the #3 seeded Pirates!

The Pirates earned their way into the championship by saving their best game of the season for the playoffs. They defeated the A’s Tuesday night, who were the hottest minors team coming into the playoffs. Ethan Ley pitched a complete game shutout taking a perfect game into the fourth inning and a no hitter into the fifth inning. Ethan finished giving up just one hit and one walk. The Pirates set the tone early with strong defense highlighted by Sandy Gottfried fielding three hard hit balls at third base. Offensively the Pirates had big hits from Tom Landzaat, Kiran Dias, Alexander Ott, and a walk off hit to end the game by Ben Bobick.

Congratulations to the A's players and coaches as their season comes to an end.

Major Playoff update:

On Monday night the #1 seeded Yankees faced off versus the #2 seeded A's. The game featured the Yankees Rashaun Bowden muscling up and hitting his 1st playoff home run, and 7th overall, to give the Yankees the lead early on. The Yankees pushed the lead to 9-2 by the 6th inning. But the A's had a lot of fight left and scored 5 runs in their half of the sixth inning. With the potential tying run on base, the Yankees were able to put the game away, retiring the last batter on a hard fly ball caught by the centerfielder. That victory sends the Yankees to the Championship game on Friday night.

The A's would have to get right back at it on Wednesday night versus the #3 seeded Giants in a rematch of Saturday's 6-5 A's victory, with both team's seasons on the line.

The A's jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Giants were able to plate 3 runs to take the lead in the 3rd inning. The Giants were able to add on runs to make it 8-2. Giants Pitcher Shin Nakamura was sharp and didn't allow another run after the first to throw his first complete game of the year.

The loss ends the A's season and an big congratulations goes out to the A's players and coaches on a great season!

The Major championship game match up is now set for Friday night at Raynor with the #1 seeded Yankees set to battle the #3 seeded Giants. First pitch is 5:30pm.

Be sure to come out with the family to cheer on and support the players.
