Spectator Code of Conduct
Sunday Mar. 7th
As a member of Metro Little League, I understand:
  • Little League is a place for children. I understand that practice and encouragement, not criticism, is the best way to help a Little Leaguer learn the game.
  • Sportsmanship is best taught through example. I come to games ready to applaud for outstanding plays, regardless of the team I am rooting for.
  • Metro is a volunteer organization. I recognize that volunteering my time is the best way to improve our League.
  • If I am not a manager, coach, player, or umpire, I am a spectator. As a spectator, I:
    • Refrain from boorish conduct, offensive language and grandstand managing.
    • Do not stand in the area directly behind home plate
    • Do not cheer or jeer from the score booths, as the score booths are neutral quiet-zones.
    • Do not smoke anywhere near the bleachers, players, or volunteers.
  • Negative, critical observations are ineffective during a game. If I have a suggestion, I wait until the game is over and then ask the manager or coach if we can speak privately, or if I can call him/her on the telephone/email.
  • The umpire is closest to the play. I realize that it is impossible to accurately call balls and strikes from the sidelines and/or bleachers. I understand that spectators who challenge umpire calls are approached to volunteer their time working as umpires in upcoming games.
  • Each umpire makes his/her calls as fairly and accurately as he/she sees them. The umpire is the final authority on our fields and the umpire?s call is the final word. If there is debate about a call, it will be addressed by the manager, not by me.
  • Only managers or coaches may speak to umpires during games. In games where the managers and coaches are also the umpires (Tee Ball, Pioneer, and Farm) they are the only ones involved in rule decisions. Any calling out or spectator involvement with an umpire decision is considered interference and is not tolerated by our League.

Any infraction of this Code of Conduct may lead to the suspension of play until the person(s) involved has left the field.
